The Program

The Comet Bay Football Development Program is a consistent learning program over years 8, 9, 10 and into Upper School. The Program is a Department of Education Approved Specialist Sports Program (ASSP), the first to be founded in the Peel Region. Students are able to apply to become a member of the program from any location – school boundaries to not apply to Program members.

This Program is designed to provide students with ongoing development in the skills and attributes needed to play Australian Football with a focus on each student working at achieving their potential as footballers.

Students are exposed to specialist coaching while studying and practicing offensive and defensive skills, advanced strategies and tactics. Each student works towards the level of conditioning required to play top level Football, and also gain valuable experience in both umpiring and coaching roles.

The students in the program learn and train in state of the art facilities at Comet Bay College using the latest technology and equipment designed for use in playing and training in Australian Rules Football. Program players have exclusive access to a fully equipped training gym including boxing, weight lifting and various sports science tools designed to maximise the results of each student.

The Program has strong formal links with the Fremantle Football Club and Peel Thunder Football Club and are the only school program in WA with this level of support. The Program also regularly liases with the West Australian Football Commission. Each of these formal links will provide the students with further opportunities in their development as footballers, students and young men.

The program is designed so that it does not clash with community football teams, WAFL Club Development Programs, or WA Representation Pathway Programs. Instead, the program is designed to further enhance the speed and effectiveness of player development by focusing on individual and team skills in a smaller group environment.

Fab Five Begin CBC AFSP Auskick Coaching

Five Year 10 Program players - Kyle Campbell, Jason Etchells, Dazza Copeland, Gibbo and Deano Smythe did a terrific job on their first up coaching trial at the Settlers Auskick clinic in front of over 50 parents.

The boys were in-charge of a mini-station with up to 20 highly excited pre-primary and primary students who were there to learn about our great
Australian game.

All the boys said they enjoyed the experience and would definitely be back next week! Ask the boys about it.

Remember boys, this voluntary coaching is important in our community - it is a way to show the parents that we are a great school, a great program, and great young men - not to mention the satisfaction of making some little kids happy for an hour.

All time spent at Auskick will come off your required community service (20 hours) for graduation - so catch up with me soon and come along next week - the program is on Monday arvo's from 3.15 to 4.15 and has five weeks to run. The more the better!

Post a comment - ask the boys how it went! Again, well done boys I was extremely proud of your efforts.

Year 9 & 10 -Peel Thunder Development Squads 2008

Players, it is around this time that coaching staff from Peel Thunder "D" Squads are out and about viewing 14's and 15's matches to select players for the preliminary squads. Myself, Mr Warren and Mr Gray are involved with coaching the 15's squads. We had a terrific number of players in the squads in 2007 from the CBC Australian Football Specialist Program with 4 players eventually making it to the final squads. Play team footy, do the hard things and support your teammates - those are the things that impress. Who knows maybe a place is waiting for you in 2008.... Good Luck!

Year 10 Squad Kalgoorlie Tour Approaching...

Players, with the Kalgoorlie Tour coming up in 2 months it would be wise for you to begin to develop an understanding of the value placed on Football in the Goldfields. They have produced several champions, Sandover, Simpson and Norm Smith Medalists over many era's in both the WAFL and VFL / AFL. Go to the Goldfields Football League website - you will find it in the links list and do some research. After exploring the site and discovering some of the regions football history, post an intelligent comment about something you have discovered. I would like a contribution from each Year 10 Program Player. I will be checking comments regularly so make sure I don't have to ask why you haven't.
